Black Friday Sales

People tend to get up at 1 or 2 in the night to get in lines, while other prefer to camp outside the store from the previous day so they’ll be able to get some of the best deals. That’s not really my idea of spending Thanksgiving evening though…  Shops and stores open early in the morning, at 5 or 6 and don’t close until late in the evening, between 22 and 24. During all this time, most of their stocks get depleted, thus making Black Friday the most profitable day in the whole year.

In order to attract buyers, store used all kind of tricks: firs they announce their ads and discounted products, then they use early birds (products with incredible low prices that are only available in a limited number or in the early hours of the morning) to make shoppers get inside their stores, discounts and coupons available in stores randomly, etc.

Are the Black Friday Sales Worth It?

Most times, stores plan on hundreds of items being in stock for the big sale of the year. Even if you don’t make it to the store right as the doors open, there will still be that item available 2 hours later when you do finally manage to get to the store.

If there is an item that you MUST have and it’s a particularly fabulous deal, then by all means you should wake before the crack of dawn and arrive to make this purchase. If it’s an item that you really want, but can live without, then sleep that extra hour or two and arrive in time to get the last few on the shelves.

MMCmicro

The MMCmicro, formerly known as S-CARD introduced by Samsung, was adopted and introduced in 2005 by the MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) as the third form factor memory card in the MultiMediaCard family. MMCmicro is the smallest, about the size of a fingernail, memory card in the MultiMediaCard family and among the smallest in the world. It was specifically designed for being used in mobile phones and other small portable devices.

The MMCmicro memory card is available with an adaptor, MMCplus. This makes it not only compatible to all MMC and MMCplus slots but also to all SD Memory Card slots. It is important to keep in mind that music stored on MultiMediaCards my not be able to play back when inserted into a SD Memory Card slot due to the copyright protection features supported by the SD slots.

Since the MMCmicro is the latest memory card to be developed and introduced to the market it is not that compatible to many mobile phones and electronic devices yet. Still it is expected to be one of the memory card formats that will dominate in the mobile phone industry among the frontrunner microSD and the under development Memory Stick Micro.

miniSD (micro sd)

21.5 × 20 × 1.4 mm

The miniSD was introduced in 2003 by SanDisk Corporation in cooperation with Matsushita (Panasonic) and Toshiba. Later in that year the miniSD format was adapted by the SD Card Association as the second form factor memory card in the Secure Digital family. MiniSD is a smaller version of the SD memory Card format, about 60% smaller in volume, and offers the same benefits as the SD Memory Card expect of the writing protection switch.

MiniSD was designed specifically to be used in small portable electronic devices like digital cameras and mobile phones. But since all miniSD memory cards always come with a SD Memory Card adaptor, they are compatible to all SD Memory Card slots and thereby provide compatibility with the rapidly growing number of SD Memory Card compatible devices in the market.

MiniSD was the second, after SD Memory Card, memory card to be adapted by the SD Card Association, which today consists of three members. In 2005 the microSD was introduced as the third, and smallest, member of the Secure Digital family.

Green shopping

Green Shopping Tips

One thing that we may not have considered before is the packaging that our food comes in. We should buy the largest size product that we can use. Anything that comes in an individual serving package can usually be purchased in a larger package. If you want a smaller amount to take with you later you can always use a reusable container and just get out the amount that you want. Individual packaging creates a huge amount of waste. Even things like soft drinks or ice tea saves plastic and packaging if you buy the largest container.

Avoid paper plates and plastic spoons. These things may seem like convenience item but they just end up in the landfills and it is such a waste. It is usually nicer to eat on normal plates anyway so if possible use real plates and real silverware.

Buy reusable and long-lasting items. Rechargeable batteries are convenient and they stay out of the landfills. Using cloth napkins, sponges and soft wipes is a much greener solution than paper towels and paper napkins. Also make sure that you take your own reusable bags to the stores when you shop to save on the plastic waste.

You can also start buying in bulk whenever possible. Single serving sizes not only cost more, but use so much more paper, plastic, etc. Buy cereals in the big plastic bags instead of little boxes. Divide up your bulk foods when you get home, putting them in reusable containers.
